Boards and Commissions

In this chapter of the Barre Town web site, information about the standing committees, boards, and commissions is presented. Use this chapter to learn who serves on the various boards and when they meet and how to communicate with the staff person serving the board. The agendas and meeting minutes are posted for examination. If the board or commission uses forms for conducting business with the public, it will be posted, too.

Eight volunteer Town residents serve on the Recreation Board. Board members are appointed to 3-year terms by the Selectboard. The board oversees all of the Town’s parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities, and other lands used for leisure purposes. The board advises the Selectboard on recreation matters, including preparation of an annual operating budget, suggestions for capital improvements, and recommendations for new or higher fees. A major Recreation Board task is scheduling use of the athletic fields for the many leagues and youth programs. See Recreation under Departments for more information about the facilities.

Cemetery Commission

The Cemetery Commission has full charge and responsibility for the care and maintenance of the town’s cemeteries.  It establishes the policies, rules and regulations for operation of the cemeteries; sets prices for services provided; lays out lots, drives and paths; and recommends to the Selectboard prices for burial lots.

Volunteer Recognition

The Town of Barre could not conduct Town business without the help of numerous volunteers. Each year the Town recognizes and thanks all those individuals and businesses to help make Barre Town a better place to live.
