CURRENT TOWN-CITY COOPERATIVE/JOINT VENTURES
1. Development: Economic development
coordinator via Barre Area Development.
2. Purchasing: Some joint purchasing.
3. Water: City sells water to Town
at wholesale rate.
4. Sewage Treatment: Town pays its
share of sewage treatment costs based on percent of sewage from
Town. City and Town have agreement for Town to pay for WWTF upgrades
in exchange for increased capacity.
5. Sewer Flusher-Cleaner (Vactor):
City and Town jointly own large piece of equipment. Agreement describes
terms and conditions for use, paying bills, etc.
6. Jail: Town buys lodging services
from City.
7. Radio Equipment: Town-City jointly
own base radio equipment. Agreement similar to one for Vactor.
8. Dispatch: Town purchases emergency
dispatch service for police, fire, ambulance.
9. Mutual Aid: City and Town participate
in common emergency services practice for police, fire, and EMS.
10. Recreation: Town pays share of
City swimming pool expenses in exchange for Town residents receiving
City resident rates. Town contributes to popular Easter Egg Hunt
organized by Barre City Recreation Dept.
11. Homecoming: Town and City contribute
cash to event organizers.
12. Department-Level Cooperation:
As needed, departments help each other with supplies, equipment,
information, and resolving matters.
13. Swapping Equipment Time: City
and Town exchange use of equipment and operator.
14. South Barre Bike Path: Joint grant
project. Each municipality paid its percent of local share.
15. Hill Street Sidewalk: Another
joint grant project. Municipalities sharing in construction - City
labor, concrete forms / Town truck, maybe loader/backhoe and operator.
Municipalities pay their percent of local share for out-of-pocket
expenses.
16. Memorial Day: Shared expense for
flags placed on veterans' graves.
