Town Of Barre
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION AND
RECOGNITION POLICY
1.
Purpose
Of Policy: The town government is not just the Selectboard
and a few key staff members. Volunteers
are critical to the operation of our town government. They give up valuable time that could be devoted
to their families, their homes, their hobbies, and to other organizations.
They make significant contributions to our public business.
Although volunteers do not serve their town for aggrandizement,
personal gain, or gifts, they should be honored and their contributions
should be recognized. The
purpose of this policy is to establish a consistent practice for
recognition of and extending appreciation to individuals who volunteer
their time, talent, knowledge, and efforts on behalf of the town.
2.
Policy: It
will be the policy of the Barre Town Selectboard to express its
appreciation for the individuals who volunteer their time, talent,
knowledge, and efforts to the town.
Volunteers will be recognized during National Volunteer Appreciation
Week.
3.
Recipients: All
volunteers having served Barre Town on a board, commission, committee
(including regional boards), at special events, or for a special
project during the twelve months preceding Volunteer Appreciation
Day will be recognized. Non-resident
volunteers will receive the same recognition as residents. Elected officials and employees are not eligible for service in
their elected or appointed positions.
4.
Recognition
Plan:
·
Every
year -
1.
The Selectboard will invite volunteers to a Selectboard meeting
to be recognized.
2.
The Selectboard
will give volunteers a small token in appreciation of their voluntary
service.
3.
The town
will publish a list of the volunteers in the town newsletter and
a local newspaper.
·
For
5 consecutive years service - Volunteers will receive a larger token of
the town’s appreciation.
·
For
10 consecutive years service - Volunteers will receive the same token presented
to 5-year volunteers plus a small plaque or comparable item.
·
For
20 consecutive years service - The Selectboard will adopt a resolution recognizing
the volunteer’s efforts; the resolution to be included in its entirety
in the Selectboard meeting minutes.
The volunteer will receive a large wall plaque and a 20-year
token of appreciation.
The consecutive years service do not have to be in the same capacity.
4.
Effective: This
policy shall be implemented on the 2001 volunteer appreciation
night. For the first year,
volunteers who have served the town more than 5 consecutive years
but less than 10, or more than 10 but less than 20, or more than
20 years, will be recognized for the highest threshold they have
reached.
