Town of Barre Water System

Electronic Payment of Taxes/Sewer and Town Water

            PROPERTY TAXES:           

Barre Town’s fiscal year is July 1 to June 30.  Around the end of July the one and only tax bill is mailed to property owner(s) of record as of the prior April 1, in accordance with State law.  (If you buy new property and you did not receive a copy of the tax bill at the time of closing, contact the Town Clerk’s Office.) 

For fiscal year 2007-2008 property taxes are due in four equal installments. The due dates are September 4, 2007, December 3, 2007, March 3, 2008 and June 2, 2008.. If you pay by mail, the payment must be postmarked the due date or earlier to avoid a one-time late fee of 5%.  If the installment plus 5% is not paid within 30 days of the due date then the installment will become delinquent and an additional one-time 8% collectors fee and 1% interest per month will be assessed.

You can pay in person, by mail or by pre-authorized direct withdrawal from you bank account.        

NOTE: Property tax bills for fiscal year 2007-2008 will be mailed around the end of July 2007. If you forward your tax bill to an escrow company remember to keep a copy which you will need to complete your 2008 homestead declaration.                       

            SEWER USE CHARGE:       

Only those residents and businesses who are connected to the Town sewer system will receive an annual bill which will be sent with the annual property tax bill.  Sewer payments for fiscal year 2007-2008 are due semi-annually, September 4, 2007 and March 3, 2008..   

The Sewer bills for the fiscal year 2007-2008 will be mailed with the property tax bills around the end of July 2007.

            WATER:        

The Town frequently receives calls from residents asking questions about their water bill, requesting service, reporting a leak, etc.  But, often the residents are not Town water customers.  For more information on other water systems operating in Barre Town and Special Assessment Districts visit the Public Works web page.

The Town Water system is a metered system.  Water payments will be due quarterly, based on the property location. Water bills are mailed approximately 30 days before each due date.

ELECTRONIC PAYMENT OF PROPERTY TAX/SEWER USE CHARGE & TOWN WATER

The Town offers taxpayers the option of having tax payments, sewer payments and town water payments electronically transferred from their bank account to the Town bank account.  This is a safe, easy and convenient way to make payments. 

To enroll complete the application and return it to my office 15 days before an installment is due. 

When you enroll, I will debit your bank account for the exact amount of each installment on the actual due date.  In the event the due date falls on the weekend or a holiday, your account will be debited the next business day.
