This year 611 Barre Town students participated in the Green-Up Poster contest with 11 winners in four categories. During the April 5, 2011 Selectboard Meeting the students pictured above were presented with certificates and tee shirts.
Green Up Day is May 7th this year. We are seeking
out groups/organizations in Barre Town for help with cleaning
up our streets and/or financial help to cover expenses. There
will be a barbecue at noon on Green Up Day at the Barre Town
Recreation Center as an appreciation for the volunteers.
We will also be looking for volunteers at the barbecue
to help serve food. We hope that with your help, and the help
of many others, we can help keep Barre Town looking cleaner
and more viable to visitors and those wishing to move here.

Vermont was the first state to designate a day to clean up the entire state. Started in 1970 by Governor Deane C. Davis, our unique tradition continues with thousands of Vermonters taking care of Vermont. Green Up Vermont is the not-for-profit organization responsible for keeping the "Green Up" tradition growing for Vermont. The success of Vermont's "Green Up" depends on two essential ingredients. One reason for success is the combined effort of individuals and civic groups who volunteer to make it all possible; and two, the financial support given by the public and private sectors throughout Vermont.
