Finance and Administration
The three departments listed under this heading fulfill the Town's
budgeting, purchasing, billing, accounting, tax assessing, and revenue collection
and recordkeeping functions. Information about office hours, telephone

Barre Town has fulltime, twenty-four hour Police and EMS (ambulance) departments. The on-call Fire Department maintains a roster of 40 members assigned to one of two stations. A part-time Emergency Management (civil defense) director assists the Town Manager to plan and coordinate Emergency Management activities. Planning and Zoning
In the 1890s, Leonard Frost Aldrich bequeathed money for a free
public library in Barre, VT. What is now Barre City was still included
in the Town of Barre. The Aldrich Library, which has been developed
from the generous gift of Mr. Aldrich, still serves all of Barre.
The Barre Town Department of Public Works has responsibility for
the Town highways, sewerage system, and water distribution system.
The DPW also maintains the Town’s entire fleet of vehicles and motor
equipment. The Town Engineer’s Office is included in this category.
