Housing Advisory Committee

The Barre Town Housing Advisory Committee is made up of five members from the community.  The committee deals with housing rehabilitation programs operated by the Town of Barre.  Included in their responsibilities are adopting a written housing rehabilitation policy, reviewing housing rehabilitation applications, approving or disapproving housing rehabilitation. In addition, the Housing Advisory Committee is responsible for suggesting housing related amendments to the zoning and subdivision bylaws. The Barre Town Selectboard also seeks input from the committee on issues related to housing.

While the Housing Advisory Committee has not had much need for regular meetings lately, they were very busy in the early ‘90s when the Town of Barre received a Vermont Community Development housing rehabilitation grant. This highly successful housing program helped rehabilitate over 20 properties in town. The rehabilitation fund was pretty well depleted and is just now starting to see significant replenishment from paybacks and payoffs.
