Barre Town Fire Department

Welcome to the Barre Town Fire Department page. The Barre Town Fire Department is a call/paid fire department providing fire protection to the Town of Barre and parts of the Town of Orange. The Fire Department responds to approximately 200 emergency calls a year out of two fire stations located at 119 Mill Street in East Barre and 529 South Barre Road in South Barre.  East Barre and South Barre are both unincorporated villages within the Town of Barre.

Each fire station has equipment that is very similar to each other. South Barre houses two pumper trucks, two water tankers, and a 4x4 pick-up truck. East Barre has two pumper trucks, a water tanker, and a 4x4 pick-up truck. In addition, our heavy rescue truck is located at the East Barre station as well as an all-terrain off road rescue vehicle (side by side) and enclosed trailer.  Both stations have removable wildland suppression skids for the back of the pick-up trucks.  The rescue truck has a mobile cascade (air bottle) filling system. The department membership includes about 30 firefighters who are assigned to a specific station.

The department is overseen by Chief Andy Lange and Deputy Chief Chris Sanborn.  Each station has an Assistant Chief that oversees that station.  Along with Barre Town's other emergency services, the department is dispatched by the Lamoille County Sheriff's Department which is located in Hyde Park, VT (802-888-3502).
