PROPERTY TAXES
  • Barre Town’s fiscal year is July 1 to June 30.  
  • ONE TAX BILL IS MAILED TO THE PROPERTY OWNER OF RECORD AS OF APRIL 1st EACH YEAR. This mailing typically goes out in mid-July. 
  • If your taxes are paid by escrow, it is your responsibility to provide the tax bill to your mortgage company.
  • Due dates for the 2023 fiscal year tax installments are as follows: August 15, 2023, November 15, 2023, February 15, 2024, and May 15, 2024.
  • Legible federal post marks of the due date are accepted as on time
  • A late fee of 5% will be accessed for payments received after the due date. Unpaid taxes are considered delinquent after 30 days and incur an immediate 8% penalty. Interest on late installments are 1% per month. 
  • Payments can be remitted by mail, at the office, left in one of the two drop boxes located at the municipal building, or paid online. Additionally, payments can be pre-authorized to direct withdraw from your bank account. If you are interested in this service please fill out and return this form to the Clerk's Office.

SEWER USE CHARGE
Only those residents and businesses who are connected to the Town sewer system will receive an annual bill which will be mailed to you in the same envelope with the property tax bill.  Sewer payments for fiscal year 2023-2024 are due semi-annually, August 15, 2023 and February 15, 2024.   

WATER
  • The Town Water system is metered. 
  • Payments are due quarterly, based on the property location.
  • Water bills are mailed approximately 30 days before each due date.  
  • The Town frequently receives calls from residents asking questions about their water bill, requesting service, reporting a leak, etc.  But, often the residents are not Town water customers.  For more information on other water systems operating in Barre Town and Special Assessment Districts visit the Public Works web page.
