Internship Program

interns
For over 20 years the Engineering Department has had great success with their summer internship program. This is a full time paid internship for one engineering student who is in or will be starting school in the fall. In the past civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering students have been accepted. Typically the internship runs for 15-16 weeks over the summer, which an expectation of the student returning for a few weeks during winter break. Many internships have continued for two or even three years. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain real hands-on work experience in the engineering field. The intern serves as an assistant to the Barre Town Engineer. Specific duties vary greatly, but will likely include; computer design work, field surveying, preparation of "as-build" drawings, inspecting paving projects and time spent as a member of the Public Works crew. It is highly preferable that the intern has access to a personal laptop computer. For additional information and to arrange an interview, please contact the Town Engineer.
