Recreation Area & Athletic Complex

The Recreation Area and Athletic Complex are located behind the Barre Town Middle & Elementary School in Lower Websterville, VT. The school is approximately one-quarter mile from the Municipal Building. Click here for detailed directions to Lower Websterville. Barre Town offers some of the finest municipal outdoor and athletic facilities in the state. At the Recreation Area and Athletic Complex, the public can enjoy:

  • A regulation amateur softball field with lighting;
  • Two tennis courts with self-serve (free) lighting; Resurfaced in 2019.
  • Six pickleball courts with self-serve (free) lighting. These can be used as two tennis courts. Resurfaced in 2019.
  • An adult-sized baseball field with lighting;
  • A youth baseball field;
  • A sand volleyball court with self-serve (free) lighting;
  • One basketball court;
  • A full-sized regulation soccer field;
  • A 400 meter running track;
  • A 16,000 square foot skatepark (click here for the Facebook page);
  • A picnic pavilion (click here for reservation form);
  • A nature trail;
  • Numerous picnic sites; 
  • An all-purpose playing field;
  • A 1.35 mile long, paved bike path;
  • A dog park with two enclosures, managed by volunteers (click here for their Facebook page);
  • Two horseshoe courts (behind the picnic pavilion); 
  • Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing over the park grounds, groomed by the Millstone Trails Association

The athletic fields are primarily used for middle and high school sports, including: baseball, softball, field hockey, and soccer. In addition, youth sport organizations and adult soccer, baseball and softball leagues (two men's leagues, and co-ed) utilize the facilities. Use of the athletic fields is scheduled by the Parks & Recreation Director and Town Recreation Board. Facility Requests are subject to availability. The local Middle and High School have priority use of facilites for their season, followed by youth leagues, and then adult leagues. Use of fields must be approved prior to any use. The Director of Parks & Recreation, alongside seasonal maintenance staff, may determine the fields to be ineligible for play on a given day based on different factors, including: weather, field saturation level, or capital improvements taking place.
